Mist, mountains & the aquarium — September 2011
A Labor-Day week in Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains — the misty ridges of Clingmans Dome, cold streams tumbling through old-growth forest, a cabin in the woods, the reef tanks and shark tunnel of Ripley's Aquarium, and the alpine slide at Ober Gatlinburg. The Smokies at their green, cloud-wrapped best. Tap any photo to enlarge it, or open the map.
A Labor Day week in Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains, where the ridges really do wear their smoke. From the top of Clingmans Dome the mountains rolled away in fading blue-grey layers, and cold streams tumbled through the old-growth forest below.
We based ourselves in a cabin in the woods, cooled off in the reef tanks and shark tunnel of Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, and rode the alpine slide down at Ober Gatlinburg. The Smokies at their green, cloud-wrapped best.
This trip ran 3 days, September 5–7, 2011. Along the way we spent time at Forest roads & mountain streams, Clingmans Dome & the high country, Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, Ober Gatlinburg, The cabin in the woods, and Into the Great Smoky Mountains.
