The Columbia Gorge, the coast, and Silver Falls — May 2024
A late-spring trip around Portland, Oregon — the basalt cliffs and waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge, snow still on Mount Hood, Haystack Rock and the old shipwreck of the Peter Iredale on the coast, the famous shelves of Powell's Books, and the canyon of waterfalls at Silver Falls State Park. A late-spring trip around Portland, Oregon, and proof of just how green the Northwest can be. The Columbia River Gorge came first — basalt cliffs and a string of waterfalls — with snow still clinging to Mount Hood above.
On the coast we found Haystack Rock and the rusting ribs of the Peter Iredale shipwreck in the sand. Back in town we browsed the famous shelves of Powell's Books, and saved Silver Falls State Park for last, where the trail actually passes behind the falling water. Waterfalls everywhere you turned.
This trip ran 5 days, May 25–29, 2024. Along the way we spent time at The Columbia River Gorge, Mt Hood & the Oregon coast, and Silver Falls & Portland. The gallery below tells it day by day, in 24 photographs.
